Joe's Football Journey

Early Days in Darwin

Joe Anderson was born in Darwin. From a young age, he showed great talent in Australian rules football. He was a fast player who could get the ball from defense and move it quickly towards his team's goal. He also played sometimes in the midfield.

Joe was the captain of the Northern Territory team for players under 18 years old. He also won the "best and fairest" award for his local club, Darwin, in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL). This award goes to the team's best player.

Joining the AFL

In 2006, Joe was chosen by the Carlton Football Club in the AFL National Draft. This is where AFL teams pick new players. He was the 67th player chosen overall.

Joe made his first AFL game appearance in 2007. He played for Carlton against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco Oval.

Developing His Skills

During his time with Carlton, Joe found it hard to keep a regular spot in the main team. He played 17 games in total for Carlton. He spent most of his time playing for the Northern Bullants. This team was Carlton's partner team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The VFL is a league where players can develop their skills.

Joe played in the 2009 VFL Grand Final with the Bullants, though they did not win. By 2010, he had played 50 games for the VFL club. At the end of the 2010 AFL season, Carlton decided not to keep Joe on their team list. This is called being "de-listed."

Playing in South Australia

After leaving Carlton, Joe moved to South Australia. He continued his football career in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). The SANFL is another important football league in Australia.

He played over 100 games in the SANFL. From 2011 to 2012, he played for the Sturt. Then, in 2013, he joined the North Adelaide. He briefly stopped playing in 2016 due to an injury but returned to the field in 2017.

Joe also played for his old junior team, Darwin, during many summer seasons while he was playing in the SANFL.

Family Connection

Joe's younger brother, Jed Anderson, is also a professional Australian rules footballer. Jed was recruited to the Hawthorn in 2012.
