Johanna Bassani (born April 25, 2002 – died May 5, 2020) was a talented athlete from Austria. She was known for two exciting winter sports: Nordic combined and ski jumping.
Johanna Bassani's Sports Journey
Johanna started her sports journey with the UVB Hinzenbach team. She showed great promise early on, winning a championship in her hometown of Attnang-Puchheim when she was just twelve years old.
In 2019, Johanna made her debut at the Summer Grand Prix, finishing 18th. Later that year, in October 2019, she earned a silver medal at the Austrian national Nordic combined championships. After this, she focused on preparing for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne. She was especially keen on the Nordic combined events there.
At the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics, Johanna placed eighth in the individual event. She then teamed up with the Austrian Nordic combined team and together they won a silver medal! Following this, she finished 11th at the 2020 Nordic Combined Continental Cup in Eisenerz.
Johanna was also chosen to be part of the Austrian national team for the 2020 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Oberwiesenthal.
Her Passing
Johanna Bassani passed away on May 5, 2020, at the age of 18.
