John Aggleton went to Cambridge University and earned a degree in natural sciences in 1976. He then continued his studies at the University of Oxford. After finishing his studies, he started teaching and doing research. From 1983, he worked at the University of Durham. He began as a lecturer and later became a senior lecturer in the psychology department.
