John Allen, 1st Viscount Allen facts for kids

John Allen's Political Journey
John Allen had a long career in Irish politics. He held several important jobs.
Early Roles and Parliament
In 1691, John Allen became the High Sheriff of County Dublin. This was an important local job, like a chief law enforcement officer for the county.
He then became a Member of Parliament (MP) for County Dublin. He served three times:
- From 1692 to 1693
- From 1703 to 1713
- From 1715 to 1717
He also represented other areas in Parliament:
- County Carlow from 1695 to 1703
- County Wicklow from 1713 to 1715
Becoming a Viscount
On August 28, 1717, John Allen was given two special titles. He became Baron Allen of Stillorgan, which is in County Dublin. He also became Viscount Allen in County Kildare. These titles meant he was part of the Irish peerage, a group of important noble families.
John Allen's Family Life
John Allen married Mary FitzGerald on July 23, 1684. Mary was the daughter of Robert FitzGerald, whose father was the 16th Earl of Kildare. John and Mary had three children together.
His Children
- Joshua Allen, 2nd Viscount Allen (1685–1742): He inherited his father's title.
- Hon. Richard A. Allen (born between 1687 and 1697 – died 1745): He married Dorothy Greene. They had children, including two who later became the 4th and 5th Viscounts Allen.
- Hon. Robert Allen (died 1741): He married Frances Johnson. They had five children, including two daughters named Mary and Frances who survived.
