John Anstruther (born May 13, 1736 – died February 10, 1815) was a Scottish military officer. He was known for his service in the British Army.
John Anstruther was the son of Sir Philip Anstruther, 2nd Baronet of Balcaskie, and Catherine Hay. His family was well-known in Scotland.
His Military Adventures
In 1776, John Anstruther became the leader of the 62nd Regiment of Foot. This happened after the previous leader, Lieutenant General William Strode, passed away. A regiment is a large group of soldiers.
After taking command, Colonel Anstruther and his regiment traveled to Canada. They were part of an important military campaign happening there at the time.

Colonel John Anstruther married Grizel Maria Thomson in December 1774. She was from Charleton in Fife, Scotland.
They had several children together. Their eldest son was John Anstruther-Thomson (born April 15, 1776 – died April 10, 1833). They also had other sons and daughters.
