Who Was John Bingham?
John Bingham was born in 1762. He grew up in Ireland. His parents were Henry Bingham and Letitia Daly.
His Time in Politics
John Bingham became involved in politics. In 1798, he was chosen to represent a place called Tuam in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a member of parliament (MP) in Ireland's government at the time. He held this position until 1800.
Becoming a Baron
In 1800, John Bingham made a special deal with the government. He gave up the two political positions he controlled in Tuam. In return, he received £8,000 (a lot of money back then!) and a new noble title.
Because of this deal, John Bingham was given the title of Baron Clanmorris in July 1800. This made him a member of the Peerage of Ireland, which is a group of noble families in Ireland. His full title was Baron Clanmorris, of Newbrook in County Mayo.
His Family Life
John Bingham married Anna Maria Yelverton in 1791. Her father was Barry Yelverton, 1st Viscount Avonmore, another important nobleman.
John Bingham passed away in May 1821. His eldest son, Charles, then became the next Baron Clanmorris. Lady Clanmorris, John's wife, lived until 1865.
