John Bowen (born in 1756 – died on June 19, 1832) was an English artist. He was known for his paintings and for studying old things and family histories.
Life of John Bowen
John Bowen was born in a town called Shrewsbury, England, in 1756. His father, James Bowen, was also an artist and a mapmaker.
John learned a lot from his father. He became very interested in old objects and stories from his local area. He was also skilled at finding and drawing family trees for families in Shropshire. This is called being a genealogist.
He was also very good at reading and copying old handwritten documents. John Bowen passed away on June 19, 1832, when he was 76 years old.
John Bowen's Works
John Bowen created many interesting drawings and studies.
In 1795, he sent a drawing of the official seal of Droitwich town to a magazine called Gentleman's Magazine. He signed it as 'Antiquarius', which means someone who studies old things. He sent another drawing to the magazine in 1802.
He also drew four pictures of Shrewsbury. These pictures were later turned into prints by another artist named Vandergucht.
