John Boyle, 2nd Earl of Glasgow (April 1688 – 22 May 1740) was an important Scottish nobleman. He held the title of Earl of Glasgow.

His Family Background
John Boyle was the oldest son of David Boyle, 1st Earl of Glasgow. His mother was Margaret Lindsay. The Boyle family was a very old and respected family in Scotland. Their main home and lands were around Kelburn Castle in North Ayrshire.
His Life and Work
John Boyle was born in April 1688. He became the 2nd Earl of Glasgow on October 31, 1733. This meant he took over his father's noble title and duties. In 1721, he also bought some land called Ballikewin. This land was on the island of Cumbrae. He bought it from a relative named James Boyle.
John Boyle passed away at Kelburn Castle on May 22, 1740. He was buried at Largs Church a few days later, on May 29, 1740.
His Children
In 1707, John Boyle married Helenor Morrison. She was the daughter of William Morrison. Helenor passed away in Edinburgh in 1767. They had many children together, including:
- David Boyle (died young in 1710)
- William Boyle (lived from 1713 to 1715)
- John Boyle (1714–1775), who became the 3rd Earl of Glasgow after his father.
- Charles Boyle (born 1715), who also died when he was young.
- Patrick Boyle of Shewalton (1717–1798). He married twice and had children. One of his sons was David Boyle, Lord Boyle, who became a famous judge.
- David Boyle (born 1717), who died young.
- Janet Boyle (1711–1770)
