John Cavendish Browne, 3rd Baron Kilmaine (born June 11, 1794 – died January 13, 1873) was an important person in Ireland. He was known as the 3rd Baron Kilmaine. He was an Anglo-Irish politician and a large landowner. This means he owned a lot of land in Ireland and was involved in politics. From 1849 to 1873, he was an Irish representative peer. This role meant he represented Ireland in the British Parliament.
John Cavendish Browne was the oldest son of James Browne, 2nd Baron Kilmaine and Anne Cavendish. His mother was the daughter of Sir Henry Cavendish, 2nd Baronet. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin. He passed away in Dublin in 1873.
His Family Life
Lord Kilmaine was married two times and had a very large family of 17 children! Most of his children lived to be adults.
His first marriage was in 1822 to Elizabeth Lyon. They had three sons and four daughters. Sadly, all three sons became officers in the British Army and died without getting married. One son, Captain Hon. Cavendish Browne, was killed in battle during the Siege of Sevastopol in 1855. Elizabeth passed away in 1834.
Lord Kilmaine married a second time in 1839 to Mary Law. With Mary, he had five more daughters and four more sons. His son, Hon. Francis William, later became the 4th Baron Kilmaine after his father's death.
