Francis William Browne, 4th Baron Kilmaine (born March 24, 1843 – died November 9, 1907) was an important Anglo-Irish politician and landowner. He was a special kind of representative in the Irish Parliament and also served as the Sheriff of County Westmeath in 1870.

About Francis William Browne

Francis William Browne was born in London. He was the oldest son of John Cavendish Browne, who was the 3rd Baron Kilmaine. His mother was Mary Law. Francis took over his father's title, becoming the 4th Baron Kilmaine, in 1873.

He owned a lot of land in Ireland, about 14,700 acres! He was also a member of special clubs for gentlemen in both London and Dublin.

His Role in Politics

Francis William Browne was chosen to be an Irish representative peer. This meant he represented Ireland in the British Parliament. He held this important role from 1890 until he passed away.

Before that, in 1870, he was appointed as the High Sheriff of County Westmeath. A High Sheriff was a very important official who helped keep law and order in the county.

Family Life

In 1877, Francis William Browne married Alice Emily. She was the daughter of Colonel Dean Shute. They had one son together, named John Edward Deane Browne. Their son later married Lady Aline Kennedy.

Francis also had a home in Pau, a town in France. He loved golf and even sponsored a golf tournament there. The winner of this tournament received a special prize called the Kilmaine Cup.

Francis William Browne died on November 9, 1907. His body was brought back to Ireland for burial.
