John Deere Cady (born January 26, 1866 – died November 12, 1933) was an American golfer. He is best known for winning a silver medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis. John Cady was also the grandson of John Deere, who invented the steel plow. His great-grandfather was Linus Yale, Sr., a famous inventor too.

John Cady: An Olympic Golfer

In 1904, John Cady was part of the American golf team at the Olympic Games. His team won the silver medal, which is a great achievement! In the team competition, he finished 23rd overall. He also played in the individual golf competition. There, he finished 27th in the first round and was then eliminated.

A Champion on the Green

John Cady was a very important person in the world of golf. He helped start the Rock Island Arsenal golf club. He was so good at golf that he won the club's championship seven times!

He also led two big golf groups. He served for two years as the President of the Western Golf Association. Later, he became the president of the Trans-Mississippi Golf Association.

Family and Business Life

Besides golf, John Cady was also a smart businessman and investor. He was known in society as a "socialite," meaning he was active in social events. His father was an architect named Merton Yale Cady. John Cady lived with his parents, and later with his wife, at the historic John Deere House.

John Cady also helped his community. He worked with the Red Cross on many projects in Moline, Illinois, where his father had once been the mayor. He managed the Cady stone quarry in Moline. Later, he moved to Chicago and worked in the bond and brokerage business, dealing with investments. He worked with companies like Dean, Onativia & Co. and E. A. Pierce & Co. until he passed away in Chicago.

He was a member of several important clubs, including the Onwentsia Club, Old Elm Club, Chicago Club, and Rock Island clubs. He was also on the board of governors for the Lawsonia Club.
