John Campbell, 2nd Earl Cawdor facts for kids
John Frederick Vaughan Campbell, 2nd Earl Cawdor (born June 11, 1817 – died March 29, 1898), was an important British politician.
He was the son of John Campbell, 1st Earl Cawdor, and Lady Elizabeth Thynne. Before his father passed away in 1860, he was known as Viscount Emlyn.
As Viscount Emlyn, he had a special role at the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. He served as a 'Lord-in-waiting' for Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester. This meant he helped and attended to the Princess during the important event.
His Family Life
John Campbell married Sarah Mary Compton Cavendish on June 28, 1842. Sarah was the daughter of General Hon. Henry Frederick Compton-Cavendish.
Together, John and Sarah had seven children:

His Political Career
John Campbell started his political journey as a Member of Parliament (MP). As Lord Emlyn, he represented the area of Pembrokeshire. He served as an MP from 1841 until 1860.
Later in his life, he became involved in local politics. In 1889, he was elected to the Pembrokeshire County Council. He represented the Castlemartin area without anyone running against him.
