John Carminow (around 1516 – 1592) was an English politician. He played a part in the government during the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

He was the oldest son of Thomas Carminow and Elizabeth Cheeseman. His father, Thomas, worked for King Henry VIII. His mother's father, Edward Cheeseman, worked for King Henry VII. John Carminow also had a younger brother named Nicholas Carminowe, who was also a Member of Parliament.

John Carminow served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for different areas in England. An MP is someone chosen to represent a group of people in the country's main law-making body, called Parliament.

John Carminow was an MP for:

  • Cornwall from October 5, 1553, to December 5, 1553.
  • Truro from 1563 to 1567.

High Sheriff and Justice

Besides being an MP, John Carminow held other important roles:

  • He was the High Sheriff of Cornwall from 1558 to 1559. A High Sheriff was a very important official who helped keep law and order in a county.
  • He was also a Justice of the Peace from 1569 until he passed away. A Justice of the Peace helps with local legal matters and keeps the peace in their area.

John Carminow married Margaret Tredinnick. They had three sons and one daughter. Their sons included George and Oliver. Oliver followed in his father's footsteps and also became a Member of Parliament for places like St. Mawes, Truro, and Tregony. Their daughter's name was Mary.
