John Comyn IV (born around 1294 – died June 24, 1314) was an important figure in Scottish history. He was known as the Lord of Badenoch, a powerful title in Scotland.

John Comyn IV was the son of John III "The Red" Comyn. His father was a leader of Scottish rebels who fought against the English. Sadly, John "The Red" Comyn was killed by Robert the Bruce in a church in Dumfries in 1306. After his father's death, John Comyn IV was sent to England by his mother, Jeanne de Valence.

John Comyn IV married a woman named Margaret Wake. She was the daughter of John Wake, who was the first Baron Wake of Liddell. John and Margaret had one child, a son named Aymer Comyn. Sadly, Aymer died when he was a baby in 1316.

John Comyn IV at the Battle of Bannockburn

John Comyn IV died fighting in a very famous battle called the Battle of Bannockburn. This battle took place on June 24, 1314. What's interesting is that John Comyn IV fought on the English side, even though his father had been a Scottish rebel leader.

He was killed during a brave charge by cavalry (soldiers on horseback) against Scottish spearmen. This happened on the second and main day of the battle.

The Title of Lord of Badenoch

It is believed that John Comyn IV became the Lord of Badenoch after his father was killed. However, he lost this important title at some point. This likely happened during Robert the Bruce's first Parliament meeting in St Andrews in 1309.
