John Crosby was an English actor who lived a long time ago, during a period called the Restoration (from 1660 to 1688). He started acting when he was quite young, possibly even as a child. His first known performance was in 1662 in a play called Ignoramus. He performed this play at Whitehall Palace, which was a very important royal building in London.

John Crosby's Acting Career

After his first show, it took about eight years for John Crosby to become a regular actor. In 1670, he joined a famous acting group known as the Duke's Company. His first play with them was The Forc'd Marriage by a well-known writer named Aphra Behn.

For the next ten years, John Crosby was a busy and important part of the Duke's Company. He often played roles as young lovers in the plays. He was known for his performances during this exciting time for English theater.

Life After the Stage

John Crosby decided to stop acting in 1679. After leaving the theater, he took on a different kind of public role. He became a justice of the peace for Middlesex. A justice of the peace was a local official who helped keep order and deal with minor legal issues.

John Crosby passed away on April 8, 1724. He was buried in St Sepulchre, a historic church in London.
