John Duncan was born on May 16, 1953. He is a British scientist who studies the brain. Scientists who study the brain are called neuroscientists.

After finishing his studies at the University of Oxford in 1976, John Duncan worked with another scientist named Michael Posner at the University of Oregon for two years. Later, he joined the Medical Research Council (MRC). As of 2018, he leads a program at the MRC's Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge. He also works at the University of Oxford as a research fellow and is part of St John's College, Oxford.

Top Science Groups

In 2008, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a special honor given to top scientists in the United Kingdom. It means he is recognized as one of the best in his field. The next year, in 2009, he also became a Fellow of the British Academy. This group recognizes leading experts in social sciences and humanities.

Heineken Prize

In 2012, John Duncan won the Heineken Prize for Cognitive Science. This big award was given to him by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. It recognized his important discoveries about how our brains think and process information.
