John Maxwell Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine of Rerrick (born December 14, 1893 – died December 14, 1980) was an important Scottish banker. He also served as the Governor of Northern Ireland from 1964 to 1968. This was a very important role in the government of Northern Ireland.

John Maxwell Erskine was born in a town called Kirkcudbright in Scotland. His parents were John and Maryanne Erskine. He went to school at Kirkcudbright Academy.
His Career in Banking
John Maxwell Erskine had a long and successful career in banking. From 1932 to 1953, he was the General Manager of the Commercial Bank of Scotland. This meant he was in charge of how the bank was run every day. After that, he became a director of the bank, helping to make big decisions, from 1951 to 1969.
He was also the President of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland from 1937 to 1940. This is a professional group for bankers, and being president is a big honor. In 1933, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. This is a group of smart people who are experts in different fields, like science and arts.
