Sir John Ferrers (born 1566, died 1633) was an important English landowner and politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, many times between 1586 and 1611.

Who Was Sir John Ferrers?

Sir John Ferrers was the son of Sir Humphrey Ferrers and Anne or Jane Bradbourne. His family was from Tamworth and Walton-on-Trent.

Early Life and Education

John Ferrers started studying at Trinity College, Oxford in 1583 when he was 17 years old. After that, he studied law at Lincoln's Inn in 1584. This education helped him prepare for a life in public service.

A Career in Politics

In 1586, John Ferrers was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Tamworth. An MP is someone who represents their local area in the government. He was elected as an MP for Tamworth again in 1593.

In 1603, he was given the special title of "Sir" and became a knight. This was a great honor from the King. He was elected MP for Tamworth one more time in 1604.

In 1608, he inherited his father's lands and wealth. By this time, he was also a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Warwickshire. A J.P. was an important local official who helped keep law and order. From 1614 to 1615, he served as the Sheriff of Warwickshire. The Sheriff was another very important local leader.

Family Life

In 1592, Sir John Ferrers married Dorothy Puckering. Her father was also an important person named Sir John Puckering. Sir John and Dorothy Ferrers had at least one son and two daughters. One of their daughters, Frances, later married Sir John Pakington.

Sir John Ferrers passed away around the age of 67 in 1633.
