John FitzMaurice, Viscount Kirkwall facts for kids
John Hamilton FitzMaurice, Viscount Kirkwall (born 9 October 1778 – died 23 November 1820) was a British politician. Before 1791, he was known as John FitzMaurice. He held the special title of Viscount Kirkwall.

John Hamilton FitzMaurice came from an important family. His father was Thomas FitzMaurice. His mother was Mary, who was the Countess of Orkney in her own right. This means she inherited the title herself.
His uncle was William Petty FitzMaurice, who was a very important person. He served as the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
John received the title Viscount Kirkwall in 1791. This was a courtesy title. A courtesy title is used out of politeness. It is given to the eldest son of a countess or earl. He got this title when his mother became the Countess of Orkney.
Political Work in Parliament
John Hamilton FitzMaurice was a politician. This means he worked in the government. He became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP helps make laws for the country.
He represented the area of Heytesbury in Parliament. He served there from 1802 to 1806. Later, he represented Denbigh Boroughs. He held this position from 1812 to 1818.
His Family Life
Lord Kirkwall married Anna Maria in 1802. She was the daughter of John Blaquiere, 1st Baron de Blaquiere.
He passed away in November 1820. He was 42 years old. He died before his mother. His oldest son, Thomas, later inherited the title of Earl. His second son, William, also became a politician. Lady Kirkwall, his wife, died in January 1843.
