John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes (died 1547) was an important Scottish landowner. He was the son of William Forbes, 3rd Lord Forbes, and Christian Gordon. His mother was the daughter of Alexander Gordon, 1st Earl of Huntly.

John Forbes became the Lord Forbes after his brother Arthur passed away in 1493. He played a role in Scottish politics during his time. In 1528, he traveled with King James V from Stirling Castle to Edinburgh. There, he made a strong promise to support the king against the powerful Douglas family.

John Forbes lived during a time of many changes in Scotland. He was involved in some disagreements in the Aberdeen area. In 1542, Lord Forbes and the Earl of Huntly had conflicts in the northern parts of Scotland. John Forbes passed away in 1547.
