John Gordon was a Scottish nobleman who lived in the early 1500s. He was known as Lord Gordon. He was part of the powerful Gordon family.
Family Background
John Gordon was the second son of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly. However, he was the oldest son who survived. His mother was Lady Jean Stewart. She was the daughter of the Earl of Atholl.
Marriage and Lands
John Gordon married Margaret Stewart. She was a daughter of James IV of Scotland, the king. They were married before April 26, 1510. This was the date of their marriage agreement.
The king, Margaret's father, gave John and Margaret land. They received the area of Badenoch and other lands in 1510.
Later Life and Legacy
John Gordon passed away in 1517. He died in Perth, Scotland. He was buried at Kinloss Abbey in Moray.
John died before his own father. Because of this, his father's important title, the earldom, went to John's oldest son. This son was George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly.
John had other sons too. His second son was Alexander Gordon. He became an Archbishop and a Bishop in different parts of Scotland. John's third son was James Gordon. He was the Chancellor of Moray.
After John died, his wife Margaret married again. She married Sir John Drummond of Innerpeffray.
