John Hancock (March 4, 1941 – October 12, 1992) was an American actor. He was famous for his roles in many movies and television shows.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
John Hancock was born in Hazen, Arkansas. He later moved to Detroit, Michigan, with his parents. He attended Wayne State University in Detroit. To help pay for his college studies, he worked at Mid-Town Market.
Becoming a Well-Known Actor
John Hancock is perhaps best remembered for his role as "Scotty" in the TV miniseries Roots: The Next Generations. Because of his large size and unique deep voice, he often played characters who were in charge. He was frequently cast as a minister, a judge, or a high-ranking military officer.
Memorable TV Show Appearances
During his career, John Hancock made many appearances on popular television shows. These included Knots Landing, Family Ties, Diff'rent Strokes, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also appeared in Amen, Midnight Caller, and L.A. Law.
In 1992, he was working on the CBS sitcom Love & War. He played the character "Ike Johnson," a bartender. Sadly, he passed away from a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles. The writers of Love & War included his character's death in the show. Another actor, Charlie Robinson, then took over the role.
John Hancock was buried in the Devotion section of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
