John Henry Harlan (born December 21, 1925 – died February 27, 2017) was a famous American television announcer. An announcer is someone who introduces shows, commercials, or segments on TV or radio. John Harlan worked on many TV shows for more than 40 years! He was especially known for his work on game shows and variety shows. He was born in Sonoma County, California.

John Harlan was perhaps best known for his work on the Bob Hope TV specials. These shows aired on NBC from the 1960s all the way through the 1990s. Game show fans might remember him most from You Don't Say! and different versions of Name That Tune. He worked on these shows between 1974 and 1985.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

John Harlan went to California State University, Fresno. He graduated from there in 1948. While he was at college, he was even the class president for one term. He was good friends with Wendell Bell during his time at school. John Harlan was the best man at Wendell Bell's wedding in 1947.

John Harlan later married Beverly Christensen. She was a model on a TV show called Queen for a Day. Interestingly, John Harlan was also an announcer on that very same show!

John Harlan was a very busy announcer. He worked on a wide variety of television programs. He was known for his clear voice and professional style. Here are some of the popular shows he announced:

John Harlan continued to work on TV specials occasionally until he passed away in 2017. He was also the president of an organization called Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters. This group helps people who have worked in broadcasting for a long time.

John Harlan died on February 27, 2017. He was 91 years old.
