From 1692, John Hoblyn held an important job as the Town Clerk of Bodmin. This role meant he was in charge of the town's official records and business. It was a key position in the local government.

John Hoblyn in Parliament

In 1695, John Hoblyn was chosen to represent Bodmin in the English Parliament. He was elected without anyone running against him, which shows he was very popular in his hometown. He kept his seat in Parliament until he passed away.

While in Parliament, John Hoblyn usually voted with the Tories. The Tories were one of the main political groups at the time. They had certain ideas about how the country should be run.

John Hoblyn married Jane Symons in 1682 in London. They did not have any children.

In his will, which he wrote in 1705, John Hoblyn left his property to his wife, Jane, and to his brother, Thomas. He also left some land and property to his nephew, Edward. This included a place called The Barton of Colquite, the manor of Colquite, and its mills. He also owned lands in nearby areas like St Mabyn, Egloshayle, and Bodmin.
