John I of Ponthieu was an important count who lived a long time ago, from about 1140 to 1191. He became the Count of Ponthieu in 1147, taking over from his father, Guy II of Ponthieu. His mother was named Ida.
Conflict with King Henry II
In 1166 and 1168, John I attacked the region of Normandy. He did this because King Henry II of England had taken control of some castles. These castles were in areas like Alençon and La Roche-Mabile.
King Henry II was very upset by John's actions. To show his anger, King Henry led his army into Ponthieu. His soldiers caused a lot of damage in the Vimeu area, which is in the southwest part of Ponthieu.
John's Family Life
John I married a woman named Beatrice of Saint-Pol. Together, they had two children:
- William IV Talvas, who later became a count himself.
- Margaret, who married a person from the Pecquigny family.
