About John J. Farrell
John J. Farrell was born in 1872 in Ohio. His parents, Daniel Farrell and Mary Guyton, had moved to the United States from Ireland. When John was about 14 years old, in 1886, his family moved to Minnesota.

In August 1901, John J. Farrell married Mabel Sanborn. She was from a town in Minnesota called Faribault, Minnesota. Her father was W. N. Sanborn.
His Work in Dairy and Food
By 1917, John J. Farrell had a very important job. He was the Dairy and Food Commissioner of Minnesota. This meant he helped make sure that dairy products and food in Minnesota were safe and good quality. At the same time, he was also the president of the National Creamery Buttermakers' Association. This group worked with people who made butter.
