John Jones's Role in the War

John Jones flew in a type of plane called a Bristol F.2 Fighter. In this plane, he worked as an observer and gunner. This meant he helped the pilot by looking for enemy planes and firing the machine gun. It was a team effort to win battles in the sky.

He flew with several skilled pilots. Some of these pilots included Second Lieutenants Frank George Gibbons, Sydney A. Oades, and Stanley Wallage. Captain William John Mostyn was also one of his flying partners.

His Amazing Victories

John Jones began his streak of victories on December 5, 1917. Over the next six months, he became incredibly successful. By June 2, 1918, he had achieved many victories.

He helped destroy four enemy aircraft and one observation balloon. An observation balloon was used by the enemy to watch troop movements. He also helped force ten other enemy aircraft to go down out of control. This meant they were no longer a threat.
