John King, 2nd Baron King facts for kids
John King, the 2nd Baron King, was an important English politician who lived from 1706 to 1740. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, which means he was recognized for his contributions to science.
Early Life and Education
John King was born in London in 1706. His father was Peter King, 1st Baron King. His father later became a very important judge called the Lord Chancellor.
John went to Cambridge University for his education. He studied at Clare College. In 1723, he earned his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree.
Political Career
John King became a Member of Parliament (MP). This means he was elected to represent people in the British government. He represented the area of Launceston from 1727 to 1734.
After that, he represented Exeter from 1734. He continued in this role until 1735. In 1735, he inherited his father's title and became the 2nd Baron King. This meant he moved to the House of Lords.
Family and Later Life
John King married Elizabeth Fry. She was the daughter of Robert Fry, Esq., from Devon. They did not have any children together.
John King passed away in 1740. He died while traveling to Lisbon. His younger brother, Peter King, 3rd Baron King, then became the 3rd Baron King.
