John Brendan Larkin (born 20 April 1963) is a popular Australian writer. He is famous for his books for young adults, especially The Shadow Girl and The Pause. Both of these exciting novels were published by Penguin Random House.
The Pause came out in April 2015. It won the Griffith University Young Adult Book Award at the 2015 Queensland Literary Awards. The Shadow Girl also won a big prize, the 2012 Victorian Premier's Award for young adult fiction.

John Larkin was born on 20 April 1963, in a mining town called Maltby. This town was in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, which is now part of South Yorkshire. His mother, Pat, was also from Maltby. His father, Brendan, came from Ireland.
Moving to Australia
In the late 1960s, John's family moved to Australia. They arrived in Sydney on Christmas Eve in 1969. John is the middle child in his family. He has an older sister named Trish and a younger brother named Paul. Paul lives in Western Australia, while John lives in New South Wales.
John's Education and Career
John Larkin went to Toongabbie Public School and Pendle Hill High School. He loved studying English literature at Macquarie University. He earned several degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a master's degree in creative writing.
Today, John Larkin continues to write amazing books. He also teaches at several schools, including Knox Grammar Preparatory School, Abbotsleigh, and Ravenswood School for Girls. Students often find him to be a very popular teacher.
