John Brendan Larkin, born on April 20, 1963, is a talented writer from Australia. He is famous for his books The Shadow Girl and The Pause. Both of these popular books were published by Penguin Random House. The Pause came out in April 2015 and won a special award called the Griffith University Young Adult Book Award at the 2015 Queensland Literary Awards. The Shadow Girl also won an important prize, the 2012 Victorian Premier's Award, for young adult fiction.

John Larkin was born in a mining town called Maltby in England. His mother, Pat, was also from Maltby. His father, Brendan, came from Ireland. In the late 1960s, John's family moved to Australia. They arrived in Sydney on Christmas Eve in 1969.

He is a very popular teacher among his students. John has a daughter named Chantelle, who is a doctor at Westmead Hospital. He also has a son named Damian, who works as a lifeguard and a firefighter.
