John Leveson-Gower, 1st Baron Gower (born January 7, 1675 – died August 31, 1709) was an important person in English history. He was part of the Leveson-Gower family, a well-known family at the time. John was born in Sittenham, Yorkshire. His parents were Sir William Leveson-Gower, 4th Baronet and Jane Granville. His grandparents were John Granville, 1st Earl of Bath and Jane Wyche.

John Leveson-Gower was a Tory politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle-under-Lyme. He held this position from 1692 to 1703. An MP is someone chosen by people to represent them in the country's government.
In 1703, he was given a special title. He became Baron Gower of Sittenham. This meant he was a member of the nobility. From 1702 to 1707, he was also a member of the Privy Council. This was a group of trusted advisors to the King or Queen.
John Leveson-Gower also held the job of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1702 to 1706. This was another important role in the government. In 1706, he was a Commissioner of the Union. This group helped to bring England and Scotland together to form Great Britain.

In September 1692, John Leveson-Gower married Lady Catherine Manners. She was born in 1675 and died in 1722. Lady Catherine was the daughter of John Manners, 1st Duke of Rutland.
John and Catherine had six children together:
- John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower (1694–1754): He followed in his father's footsteps and became an important figure. He married three times and had children with each wife. His wives were Lady Evelyn Pierrepont, Penelope Stonhouse, and Lady Mary Tufton.
- William Leveson-Gower (died 1756): He was also a MP for Stafford. He served from 1720 to 1754. William married Anne Grosvenor and they had a daughter named Catherine.
- Thomas Leveson-Gower (1699–1727): He was born in Trentham, Staffordshire. Thomas also became an MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme. He held this position from 1720 until his death. He never married.
- Baptist Leveson-Gower (born 1701–died 1782): He was an MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme from 1727 to 1761. Baptist never married.
- Katherine Leveson-Gower (died 1712): She passed away in London and was buried in Lilleshall.
- Jane Leveson-Gower (around 1704–1726): She married John Proby in 1719. They had a son named John Proby, 1st Baron Carysfort.
