We don't know exactly when or where John Norris Hewett was born, but some believe she might have been from a place called Penicuik. Her first name, Norris, was quite unique. It's thought that she might have been named after her grandfather, Admiral John Norris. This might have been to make him happy after her mother got married again, which he didn't approve of. Her father was Robert Fisher, who was a member of a group called the Royal Company of Scottish Archers.
Her Marriages and Homes
John Norris Hewett was married three times during her life. In 1773, she married Admiral John Storr. From him, she received a house in Bedford Square in London. She also gained rights to properties in Yorkshire. After Admiral Storr passed away, she married again. Her third husband was John Hewett, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) and a Sheriff in Nottinghamshire.
A Passion for Art
John Norris Hewett was a serious art collector. After she passed away, her amazing art collection was sold in two big auctions by Christie's in 1792. These sales included artworks by famous artists like Hubert Robert, John Russell, and Jean Christophe Dietsch.
Her Own Artworks
What's really interesting is that her collection also included many pieces she had created herself! Most of her own artworks were copies of paintings by other well-known artists. She copied works by painters such as Angelika Kauffmann, John Reynolds, Guido Reni, William Peters, and John Russell. Sadly, none of her original artworks are known to exist today, except for one possible painting. This painting, a copy of The Resurrection of a Pious Family by William Peters, appeared at an auction in 2015 without a clear artist's name.

John Norris Hewett passed away at her home in Richmond. She was either 45 or 47 years old at the time. After her death, there was some confusion about her will, which led to a legal disagreement among her heirs. This was settled in 1791. Her legacy lives on through the records of her impressive art collection and her own artistic efforts.
