John Oceguera, born in 1968 in Reno, Nevada, is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. From 2001 to 2013, he served in the Nevada Assembly. This is like the state's main law-making group. In 2011, he was chosen as the Speaker of the Assembly. This means he was the leader of this important group. John Oceguera is also special because he is a member of the Walker River Paiute tribe. He was the first Native American to become Speaker in Nevada's history.

John Oceguera's Campaign for U.S. House

In 2012, John Oceguera decided to run for a bigger job. He became the Democratic nominee for Nevada's 3rd congressional district. This meant he was chosen by his party to run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was challenging Joe Heck, who was already serving in that position. Oceguera announced his campaign on July 18, 2012. However, he did not win the election. Joe Heck kept his seat as the congressman for the 3rd District.
