About John Raymond Johnson
Early Life and School
John Raymond Johnson went to school at Norman High School. This is where he got his start in learning and growing up.
His Career Before Politics
Before becoming a leader for his tribe, Mr. Johnson worked for 35 years in the optometry industry. Optometry is all about eye care, like helping people see better and checking their eyes. In 2004, he even started his own business. After many years, he decided to retire from this work.
Leading the Tribe
In 2019, John Raymond Johnson became the governor of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians. As governor, he works hard to create new chances for the tribe's businesses. He helps them get contracts with the government and even team up with other tribes on big projects.
One big thing he helped with was starting work on a new health care center in Little Axe, Oklahoma. This center will help tribal members get the medical care they need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also made sure that money from the CARES Act (a special government fund) went to tribal members who needed help. He made sure checks were given out to people during that difficult time.
His Family Life
John Raymond Johnson married his wife, Janet, in the late 1970s. They have two children together.
