John Silly (born around 1621, died 1672) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which was like a big meeting group where laws were made for England. He served there in 1659 and 1660.

John Silly was the second son of another man named John Silly. His family lived in a place called Trevelver in Cornwall, England. His mother was Elizabeth Marke. John's father was a lawyer, and he had changed his family name from Ceely to Silly.

John Silly's Time in Politics

In 1659, John Silly was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Bodmin. An MP is someone who represents the people of their area in the government. He was part of a special government meeting called the Third Protectorate Parliament.

The next year, in 1660, he was chosen again to be an MP for Bodmin. This time, he was part of another important meeting called the Convention Parliament. These parliaments were important because they helped decide how England would be governed during a time of big changes.

Family and Life

John Silly inherited some land and property from his grandfather in a place called St Wenn. Later, in 1667, he also inherited more family estates at Trevelver after his nephew passed away. He then moved to live at Trevelver.

John Silly married a woman named Jane Cotton. Her father, William Cotton, was a important person at Exeter Cathedral, which is a very old and famous church.
