John Simon Frederick Fraser (1765–1803) was a Scottish soldier and politician. He was also known as Simon Fraser, the younger of Lovat. He led a special army unit called the Fraser Fencibles in Ireland. He also served as a Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness-shire from 1796 to 1802. A Member of Parliament is a person elected to represent a group of people in the country's government.

Who Was Simon Fraser?

Simon Fraser was born in 1765. He was the oldest son of Archibald Fraser (1736–1815) and Jane Fraser. Archibald Fraser was the 20th chief of the Clan Fraser.

Early Life and Education

Simon Fraser studied at Wadham College, Oxford, starting in 1786. This is a famous university in England. Later, he went on to study law. He joined Lincoln's Inn in 1789 and the Inner Temple in 1793. These were places where people learned to become lawyers.

Military Service

Simon Fraser became a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Fraser Fencibles. A "Fencible" regiment was a type of army unit raised for defense within a specific area. This regiment was formed in 1794. It was created by James Fraser of Balladrum. Simon Fraser's unit served in Ireland during the Irish rebellion of 1798. This was a time of unrest and fighting in Ireland. The Fraser Fencibles regiment was officially ended in 1802.

A Member of Parliament

From 1796 to 1802, Simon Fraser was a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of Inverness-shire. As an MP, he helped make laws and decisions for the country.

Later Life

Simon Fraser passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, on April 6, 1803. He was 38 years old. He died before his father. He was not married when he died.
