John Marks Templeton Jr. (born February 19, 1940 – died May 16, 2015), also known as Jack Templeton, was an American doctor. He was the older son of Sir John Templeton, a famous investor and giver. Jack Templeton became the leader of the John Templeton Foundation.
Early Life and Education
John Templeton Jr. was born in New York City. He went to Yale University and then studied medicine at Harvard Medical School. After finishing his studies, he worked as a doctor in the United States Navy.
Medical Career
In 1977, Dr. Templeton started working at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He was a special surgeon for children and helped lead the hospital's program for treating serious injuries. His wife, Josephine, also worked at the same hospital as a doctor who helped patients sleep during surgery.
He stopped working as a surgeon in 1995. He then joined the John Templeton Foundation. When his father passed away in 2008, Jack Templeton took over as the head of the foundation.
Philanthropy and Beliefs
John Templeton Jr. was a Christian who believed strongly in his faith. He helped lead the John Templeton Foundation, which supports research and ideas about big questions in life, science, and religion. A college at Eastern University is named after him, called the Templeton Honors College. He also supported groups that believed in conservative ideas.
Later Life and Legacy
Dr. Templeton was seen as an important person in Pennsylvania politics in 2010. He passed away on May 16, 2015, because of brain cancer. He died in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He left behind his wife, Josephine, two daughters, a brother, and six grandchildren.
