John Till Allingham (born around 1776 – died February 28, 1812) was an English writer who created plays for the stage. He was known for writing many successful plays during his time.

His Early Life and Career

John Till Allingham was the son of a wine merchant in London. He was trained to work in law. However, he became well-known as a very successful playwright. A playwright is someone who writes plays for the theater.

Allingham passed away when he was 36 years old. He died at his father's home in Islington. He was buried in March 1812 at Bunhill Fields.

His Creative Works

John Till Allingham wrote many plays that were popular. His plays were often shown in famous theaters. These included the Covent Garden Theatre and the Drury Lane Theatre.

Popular Plays and Farces

One of his most popular plays was Fortune's Frolic. It was first shown in 1799 at the Covent Garden Theatre. This play was loved by many for a long time. Famous actors enjoyed playing the main character, Robin Roughhead.

Another play he wrote was Tis all a Farce. This play was produced at the Haymarket Theatre in 1800.

A painter named George Henry Harlow even painted a picture of Charles Mathews. He was shown playing the character Mr. Wiggins from the play Mrs. Wiggins.
