John Whitehead (born July 10, 1948 – died May 11, 2004) was an American singer and songwriter. He was famous for being a key part of Philadelphia International Records. This was a very important record label known for its soul music. John Whitehead was also one half of the successful music duo McFadden & Whitehead. His partner was Gene McFadden.

About John Whitehead's Music Career
John Whitehead and Gene McFadden worked together to create many hit songs. They wrote these songs for other artists on the Philadelphia International label. Some of these artists included The O'Jays and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.
Their Big Hit Song
In 1979, McFadden & Whitehead released their own song called "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now." This song became a huge hit. It is still well-known today.
His Family and Education
John Whitehead was also a father. His two sons later formed their own music group in the 1990s called the Whitehead Brothers. John Whitehead also received an honorary law degree from Bates College. This is a special award given to people who have achieved great things.
What Happened to John Whitehead
On May 11, 2004, John Whitehead was sadly shot and killed. This happened while he was fixing a car outside his home in Philadelphia. It is believed that it might have been a case of mistaken identity. Another person with him was also hurt, but not seriously. Two gunmen fired shots and then ran away. As of 2013, the people responsible for his death have not been found. John Whitehead was 55 years old when he passed away. He had become a Muslim in 1996. He is buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia.
