Johnny Ningeongan is a Canadian politician. He was a leader who helped make decisions for the people of Nunavut.
He was chosen by voters to be a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). This means he was part of the group that makes laws for Nunavut. He represented the area called Nanulik.
Who is Johnny Ningeongan?
Johnny Ningeongan was elected in the 2008 election. This election chose who would represent different areas in Nunavut. He worked in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, which is like the parliament for Nunavut.
In the 2013 election, he ran again. However, the areas (called "districts") had been changed. He ran in the new district of Aivilik but was not re-elected.
Before Becoming an MLA
Before he became an MLA, Johnny Ningeongan was very active in his community. He served as the mayor of Coral Harbour five times. A mayor is the main leader of a town or city.
He was also the president of the Nunavut Federation of Municipalities for one term. This group helps different towns and cities in Nunavut work together.
