Johnny Ningeongan is a Canadian politician. He was chosen to represent the area of Nanulik in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. This happened during the 2008 election. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). In the 2013 election, he was not re-elected for the new area of Aivilik.
About Johnny Ningeongan
Before he became an MLA, Johnny Ningeongan was very active in his community. He served five times as the mayor of Coral Harbour. A mayor is the leader of a town or city. He also led the Nunavut Federation of Municipalities for one term. This group helps different towns and cities work together.
The Legislative Assembly of Nunavut is like the government for the territory of Nunavut. It is where elected members, called MLAs, make laws. They discuss important issues for the people of Nunavut. Nunavut has a special way of governing called a consensus government. This means there are no political parties. Instead, all MLAs work together to make decisions.
