Johnny Răducanu (born Răducan Creţu) was a very famous Romanian jazz musician. He was born on December 1, 1931, in Brăila, Romania. His family had a long history of music, going all the way back to the 1600s! Johnny Răducanu became known as "Mr. Jazz of Romania" because he helped create and grow the jazz music scene in his country. He played both the double bass and the piano. He passed away on September 19, 2011, in Bucharest.

Early Life and Musical Journey
Johnny Răducanu started his amazing musical journey when he was 19 years old. He first learned to play the double bass, which is a very large string instrument. Later, he switched to playing the piano. He was a talented musician who worked with many other artists from around the world. Some of these famous musicians included Art Farmer, Slide Hampton, and Friedrich Gulda.
A Leader in Romanian Jazz
Johnny Răducanu was a true pioneer for jazz music in Romania. He is known as the person who started the Romanian Jazz school. For over 50 years, he helped find, teach, and train many new generations of jazz musicians in Romania. Because of his huge impact, a famous jazz critic named Leonard Feather called him "Mr. Jazz of Romania." He was also the President of the Romanian Jazz Federation, which shows how important he was to the jazz community.
In 1987, Johnny Răducanu received a special honor. He became an honorary member of the Louis Armstrong Academy in New Orleans, USA. This was a big recognition of his talent and his contributions to jazz music worldwide.
