Jon Michelet (born July 14, 1944, in Moss – died April 14, 2018, in Oslo) was a famous Norwegian writer. He wrote many different kinds of books.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Jon Michelet worked as a sailor and a dock worker. These experiences often showed up in his stories. He wrote exciting crime novels, newspaper articles, sports reports, and even books for children.

Jon Michelet: A Talented Writer
Jon Michelet wrote many popular books. One of his most well-known is the action-thriller novel Orion's Belt (1977). This book was made into a movie in 1985. The film is known as Norway's first modern action movie.
Award-Winning Crime Novels
Jon Michelet was very good at writing crime stories. He won the Riverton Prize twice. This award is given to the best Norwegian crime book of the year.
- In 1981, he won for his book Hvit som snø (which means White as snow).
- Twenty years later, he won again for Den frosne kvinnen (meaning The frozen woman). He was the first writer to win this prize more than once!
His Last Big Project
His very last work became his biggest success. It was a six-book series called En sjøens helt (A hero of the sea). This series told the stories of Norwegian sailors during World War II. These books were very popular. Jon Michelet finished the last book just one week before he passed away.
Editor of a Newspaper
Besides writing books, Jon Michelet also worked as an editor. He was the main editor for a Norwegian newspaper called Klassekampen. He held this job from 1997 to 2002.
Other Important Roles
Jon Michelet also held several important positions in different groups. These are sometimes called "positions of trust."
- He was a member of the board for the Norsk Styrmandsforening, which is a group for ship officers.
- From 2003 to 2009, he was the chairman of the Rivertonklubben. This is a special club for Norwegian crime writers.

Jon Michelet lived in a place called Larkollen. He was also involved in politics. He was a candidate for the Red Party. This means he supported their ideas and ran for office, though he was a "minor ticket candidate," meaning he wasn't one of the main candidates.
