Jonas Mačiulis (born February 10, 1985) is a famous Lithuanian basketball player. He played for many top teams around the world. Jonas was known for playing as a small forward. He was also a key player for the Lithuanian national team.
Jonas helped Lithuania win a silver medal at the EuroBasket 2015 tournament. He was even chosen for the All-EuroBasket Team that year. After retiring from playing, he became a basketball executive. Today, he is the general manager for Lietkabelis Panevėžys in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL).

Early Basketball Days
Jonas Mačiulis started his basketball journey in Lithuania's second-tier league, the LKAL. He played there for two years. In 2003, his team, LKKA-Žalgiris from Kaunas, won the 2nd Division title. This was a great start to his career!
Professional Career Highlights
Starting in Lithuania
Jonas Mačiulis began his professional career in 2004 with the Nevėžis team in the Lithuanian League. He played very well, scoring about 13.6 points and grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game. The next year, in 2005, he joined the famous Lithuanian team Žalgiris.
With Žalgiris, Jonas helped his team win many championships:
- The Baltic League title in 2008.
- Two Lithuanian League titles in 2007 and 2008.
- Two Lithuanian Cups in 2007 and 2008.
Jonas kept getting better each year. In the 2006–07 season, he averaged 12.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague. This is a major European basketball competition. He had his best EuroLeague season in 2008–09, averaging 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.
On January 8, 2009, he scored a career-high 29 points against SLUC Nancy. Later that year, on April 8, 2009, Jonas set a Lithuanian League record. He made 8 three-point field goals in a row in a game against Lietuvos Rytas.
Playing in Italy and Greece
In 2009, Jonas moved to Italy and signed with Olimpia Milano. He played well there until a knee injury kept him off the court for nine months. After his recovery, he briefly played for Baltai in Lithuania in 2012. He played for free to get back into shape. In his first game back, he scored 16 points and helped Baltai win.
Later in 2012, he joined another Italian team, Montepaschi Siena. Then, from 2012 to 2014, he played for Panathinaikos, a top team in Greece.
Success with Real Madrid
On July 26, 2014, Jonas Mačiulis signed a two-year deal with Real Madrid, one of the biggest basketball clubs in Spain. The 2014–15 season was amazing for Real Madrid. They won the EuroLeague title by beating Olympiacos in the final game.
Real Madrid also won the Spanish League championship that season. This meant they achieved the "triple crown" – winning their league, cup, and the EuroLeague in one year! In 2015, Jonas was named the Lithuanian Player of the Year for the first time. He signed a new contract with Real Madrid in 2016. He left the team in March 2018.
Later Career Teams
After Real Madrid, Jonas played for Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia in 2018. Then, he joined AEK Athens in Greece in August 2018. He played for AEK Athens until 2021.
On September 9, 2021, Jonas Mačiulis announced that he was retiring from professional basketball.
National Team Career

Jonas Mačiulis was a very important player for the Lithuanian national basketball teams at all levels.
- He won a silver medal at the 2003 FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
- He earned a bronze medal at the 2004 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
- He won a silver medal at the 2005 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
- He took home a gold medal at the 2005 FIBA Under-21 World Cup.
For the senior Lithuanian national team, Jonas achieved a lot:
- He won a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2007.
- He helped Lithuania get 4th place at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
- He won another bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
- At EuroBasket 2013, Lithuania finished as runner-up, winning a silver medal. Jonas played one of his best games ever for the national team in the semi-finals against Croatia.

Jonas also played in EuroBasket 2009 and the 2012 Summer Olympics. At EuroBasket 2015, he had an amazing game against Georgia. He scored 34 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 4 steals. This helped Lithuania win 85–81. Lithuania went on to win its second silver medal in a row at EuroBasket. Jonas was chosen for the All-Tournament Team because of his great performance.
Life After Playing Basketball
After retiring from playing, Jonas Mačiulis stayed involved in basketball. He became a consultant for Nevėžis Kėdainiai in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). On June 10, 2022, he was named the sports director for Nevėžis.
More recently, on November 18, 2024, Jonas Mačiulis was appointed as the general manager of Lietkabelis Panevėžys. This shows his continued dedication to the sport.
