The Jones Block is a really old and important building in Adams, Massachusetts. It was built around 1895. This building shows us what Adams was like when it was growing super fast! It's even listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's a special part of American history.

What Does the Jones Block Look Like?

The Jones Block is in the center of Adams. You can find it on the east side of Park Street. It's just north of the town hall. This building has three stories and is made of brick. It has a flat roof with cool decorations at the top.

The first floor has two shops. These shops have strong cast iron columns. There's also a main entrance in the middle of the building. The windows on the second and third floors are rounded at the top. The second-floor windows have special stone pieces called keystones. The Jones Block is one of four brick buildings on Park Street. The others are the P. J. Barrett Block, Armory Block, and the Mausert Block.

How Old is the Jones Block?

The Jones Block was built in 1895. It was built for a person named Albert Jones. He worked in a clothing store nearby. When it was first built, the building only had two stories. The clothing store was on the first floor. The second floor was used by a group called the Hibernian Hall.

Later, in the early 1900s, a third floor was added. It was built with the same materials and style. This new floor even matched the original decorations. The way the third-floor windows are placed suggests it was also a meeting space. We don't know if Albert Jones planned for this extra floor from the start.

What Happened to the Jones Block?

The building has been empty for a long time. In 1996, a big fire happened on the second and third floors. This fire almost caused the building to be torn down. Many people have tried to fix up the building since then. However, their plans have not worked out yet.
