Joplin is a small farming community located in Jack County, Texas, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county. Joplin is situated on State Highway 199, about ten miles southeast of Jacksboro. In 2000, its population was estimated to be around 30 people.

Exploring Joplin's Past

Joplin began in the late 1880s. It was created to be a central spot for farmers living nearby. This made it easier for them to trade goods and connect with each other.

Early Community Life

By 1896, Joplin had grown into a busy little hub. It had important places that helped the community thrive:

  • A school for local children to learn.
  • Three churches where people could gather.
  • A general store to buy everyday items.
  • A mill for grinding grains.
  • A cotton gin to process cotton.

Population and Post Office

Joplin's population has always been quite small. It never grew beyond 100 residents. The highest number of people reported was 75, which stayed steady from 1896 until the early 1940s. Joplin also had its own post office for a while. This post office served the area from 1891 until it closed in 1914.
