Jordi Salvador i Duch was born on July 23, 1964. He is a teacher, a leader in workers' unions, and a politician from Spain. He is currently a member of the Congress of Deputies, which is like the main parliament or law-making body in Spain.
Early Life and Education
Jordi Salvador was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, in 1964. His grandparents on his mother's side came from a place called Conca de Barberà. They moved to Barcelona in the early 1900s to find better jobs and opportunities.
When Jordi was six years old, in 1971, his family moved to a suburb of Tarragona called Torreforta. He grew up there.
Jordi studied at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV). He earned a special degree called a bachelor's degree in geography and history. Later, he went on to get a doctorate, which is a very advanced degree. His doctorate was in social and cultural anthropology. This means he studied human societies and cultures. In 2005, his special research paper for his doctorate was about football, titled Futbol Metàfora de una Guerra Freda: Un Estudi Antropològic del Barça. He also has special certificates from the University of Barcelona (UB) that allow him to teach social sciences and physics.
His Work and Political Journey
Jordi Salvador worked as a teacher for many years, from 1987 to 2015. He was also very involved in helping workers. He was a member of a group called Federación de Trabajadores de Enseñanza, which is a teachers' union. From 2008 to 2015, he was the main leader of the Tarragona branch of the Unión General de Trabajadores, a big workers' union in Spain. He is also a member of other groups like Òmnium Cultural and Entre Pobles.
In 2015, Jordi Salvador decided to run for a political position. He ran as an independent candidate for the Republican Left of Catalonia party in the Province of Tarragona. He was elected to the Congress of Deputies that year. This is where politicians meet to make laws for the whole country.
He was re-elected to the Congress of Deputies several times after that. He won elections again in 2016, April 2019, and November 2019. In February 2020, he became the general-secretary for the Tarragona region of the Republican Left of Catalonia party.
