His Early Life and Education
Jordi Salvador was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, on July 23, 1964. When he was six years old, in 1971, his family moved to Torreforta, a suburb of Tarragona. His grandparents had moved to Barcelona earlier for work.
Jordi studied at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV). He earned a bachelor's degree in geography and history. Later, he completed a doctorate degree in social and cultural anthropology. A doctorate is the highest university degree.
His doctoral research in 2005 was about football. It was titled Futbol Metàfora de una Guerra Freda: Un Estudi Antropològic del Barça. He also has special diplomas from the University of Barcelona (UB). These diplomas allowed him to teach social sciences and physics to younger students.
His Career and Political Role
Jordi Salvador worked as a teacher for many years, from 1987 to 2015. Besides teaching, he was also very active in a trade union. A trade union is a group that protects the rights of workers.
From 2008 to 2015, he was the general-secretary of the Tarragona branch of the Unión General de Trabajadores. This means he was a main leader for workers in that area. He is also a member of other groups like Òmnium Cultural and Entre Pobles.
In 2015, Jordi Salvador decided to run for a political position. He was an independent candidate for the Republican Left of Catalonia–Catalonia Yes (ERC–CatSí) group. He was elected to the Congress of Deputies for the Province of Tarragona.
He has been re-elected several times since then. He won elections in 2016, April 2019, and November 2019. In February 2020, he was chosen as the general-secretary for the Tarragona region of the Republican Left of Catalonia party. This shows his continued leadership in politics.
