Jordi Solé Tura was an important Spanish politician and lawyer. He was born on May 23, 1930, in Mollet del Vallés and passed away on December 4, 2009, in Barcelona. He is well-known for helping to write the Spanish Constitution of 1978. This constitution was a very important step for Spain as it moved towards democracy.

Early Life and Political Journey

Jordi Solé Tura became interested in politics when he was young. He joined different groups that wanted to see changes in Spain. Some of these groups included the Popular Liberation Front and Bandera Roja.

Working for Democracy

When Spain began its journey to become a democracy, Jordi Solé Tura worked with the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia. He also worked closely with Communist Party of Spain leader Santiago Carrillo. They supported an idea called Eurocommunism, which was a different way of thinking about communism.

Becoming a Constitution "Father"

Jordi Solé Tura was elected to Spain's parliament, called the Congress of Deputies, in June 1977 and again in March 1979. He was one of seven special politicians known as the "Fathers of the Constitution." Their big job was to write a brand new constitution for Spain. This document would set the rules for how the country would be governed.

Later Political Career

After his work on the Constitution, Jordi Solé Tura left the Communist Party. He then joined the Socialist Party (PSC-PSOE). He was elected to parliament again for the province of Barcelona in 1989, 1993, and 1996.

University and Government Roles

In 1985, he was chosen to be the Dean of the Law School at the University of Barcelona. This was a big honor for him as a lawyer. Later, from March 1991 to July 1993, he served as the Minister of Culture for Spain. He worked under Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez.

Documentary and Legacy

In 2008, a documentary film was made about Jordi Solé Tura. It was called Bucarest, la memoria perdida (Bucharest, the Lost Memory). His son, Albert Solé, directed the film. The documentary shared stories from his life and showed his brave fight against Alzheimer's disease. The film was very well received and won a special award called a Goya.
