José Luis Artetxe Muguire (born June 26, 1930 – died March 19, 2016) was a Spanish football player. He was a talented striker, which means he was a forward player who focused on scoring goals. Artetxe was born in Algorta, Spain, and started his football journey in 1947.

Playing for Clubs

Artetxe played for two main clubs during his career. He started with Getxo from 1949 to 1950. After that, he joined Athletic Bilbao, a very famous Spanish team. He played for Athletic Bilbao for a long time, from 1950 until 1965. He was a key player for them for 15 years.

Playing for Spain

Besides playing for clubs, Artetxe also represented his country. He played for the Spain national football team in 1953, and then again from 1954 to 1959.

He played in six international matches for Spain. These matches are called "caps" in football. His first game for Spain was on March 17, 1954. It was a qualifying match for the 1954 FIFA World Cup against Turkey. The game ended in a 2–2 draw, and Artetxe scored the first goal in that match, which was played in Rome.

Retirement and Later Life

Artetxe retired from playing football in the 1960s. He had a long and successful career as a striker. He passed away in Bilbao, Spain, on March 19, 2016, at the age of 85.
