José "Chechu" Biriukov Aguirregaviria (whose name in Russian is Khose Biryukov Agirregaviya) is a famous retired basketball player. He was born in Moscow, Russia, on February 3, 1963. His father was Russian, and his mother was from the Basque region of Spain.
José Biriukov started his basketball journey with the Dynamo Moscow team. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Spain. There, he joined the famous Real Madrid basketball club. He played for Real Madrid for 11 seasons. He also played for his country, representing the USSR national team in 22 games and the Spain men's national basketball team in 67 games.
He played as a Shooting guard. This position is usually for players who are good at scoring points, especially from long distances. José was known for his excellent three-point shots. He had a special way of shooting the ball, making it fly quite flat towards the basket. One of his most memorable international games was in 1988. He played in the McDonald's Open against the legendary Boston Celtics team.
