José Félix Tezanos Tortajada, born in 1946, is a Spanish expert who studies society (a sociologist). He is also a politician and a university professor. Since 2018, he has been the president of the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS). This is a public organization in Spain that does research on what people think and how society works.

José Félix Tezanos was born on August 5, 1946, in Santander, Spain. He went to the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and earned a special degree called a PhD. This degree is in Political Science and Sociology, which means he studied how governments work and how people live together in groups.

In 1973, Mr. Tezanos joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). This is one of the main political parties in Spain. He became connected to a group within the party known as the guerrista faction.

His Career as a Professor

Mr. Tezanos has held important teaching positions at different universities. He was a professor of Sociology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He also taught at the National University of Distance Education (UNED).

At UNED, he helped create a new department called the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology. He was the very first Dean of this faculty. A Dean is like the head of a school or college within a university. Before this, from 1974 to 1986, he taught at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Mr. Tezanos has also guided almost 20 students as they wrote their PhD papers (called theses). One of these was a paper by Antonio López Peláez in 2001. It was about how new technologies and robots affect society.

His Role in Politics

In 2017, Mr. Tezanos joined the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE. This is a very important group that helps lead the party. He was in charge of Studies and Programs for the party.

In June 2018, Pedro Sánchez became the Prime Minister of Spain. After this, Mr. Tezanos asked to leave his role in the PSOE's Executive Commission. He wanted to focus on his new job as president of the CIS. The CIS is a public research institute that reports directly to the Spanish government's Ministry of Presidency.
