José Félix Tezanos Tortajada was born in 1946. He is a Spanish sociologist, which means he studies how people live together in groups and societies. He is also a professor and a politician. Early Life and Education
José Félix Tezanos was born on August 5, 1946, in Santander, Spain. He went to the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). There, he earned a PhD degree in Political Science and Sociology. A PhD is a very high university degree that shows someone is an expert in their field.
Career as a Professor
Tezanos has been a professor of Sociology at several universities. He taught at the Complutense University of Madrid from 1974 to 1986. Later, he held a special teaching position, called a "chair," in Sociology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He also taught at the National University of Distance Education (UNED).
At UNED, he helped create and launch the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology. He was the first Dean of this new faculty. A Dean is like the head of a department or school within a university.
Role in Politics
In 1973, José Félix Tezanos became a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). This is a major political party in Spain. He was connected to a group within the party known as the guerrista faction.
In 2017, he joined the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE. This is a very important group that helps lead the party. He was the Secretary in charge of Studies and Programs.
In June 2018, Pedro Sánchez became the Prime Minister of Spain. After this, Tezanos asked to leave his role in the PSOE's Federal Executive Commission. He wanted to focus on his new job as president of the CIS. The CIS is a public institute that does sociological research. It works directly under the Ministry of Presidency in Spain.
